Do you live a life by design or by default? In reality, most people live a life by default because they don’t proactively design their lifestyles. In this international travel journal entry, I’m going to share how to live a life by design!
Are you willing to be unapologetically different?
What does a good life mean to you? Let me give you some ideas.
Take myself as an example. To me, a good life means I am in control. When I turned 40 years old, I retired from traditional industries and became a digital nomad. Actually, after I left traditional industries, I turned down a few job offers at well-known organizations. My decision would make no sense to other people, but it’s the right decision in my reality because I already did everything that I needed to do and now it’s time for me to do something that I want to do.
Therefore, I’ve decided to enjoy international travel while doing remote work online. This is a good life for me – it fits me like a handmade glove!
By the way, I’ve made many decisions that probably make no sense to others: I never had a driving license, and I’ll never get one because I lived in the city center all my life. I’ve done the math: The taxi is cheaper and more convenient than having a car. Also, I chose to study linguistics and psychology at university when I was able to get into medical school. I used my degree for nearly two decades and now I’ve decided not to use my degree anymore.
Only I know what a good life truly means to me, so I’m unapologetically different from others. 😊
Don’t wait until you retire to enjoy life.
“When I retire, I will do XYZ….” – A lot of people have this kind of plans.
I would argue that we should enjoy life whenever we can and as soon as possible because we only live once and life is short.
That’s why I retired from traditional industries when I was 40 years of age and became a remote worker on the Internet. Combining international travel with remote work is living a life by design (not by default) in my world.
My goal is to thoroughly enjoy today as well as every day after. I don’t delay joy for some unknown future date because I don’t want to be a wealthy 98-year-old person with a lot of regrets.
“No regrets, no worries.”
